Denise is a self-taught artist, working in earthenware clay, making vases, sculptures, pendants and recently art dolls. She is a juried member of Craft NB. She lives in Drummond, N.B. with her husband and two children.
Working with clay, fabrics from her late mother’s stash, and anything she can find while walking near her home, all can be used in her sculptures. They tell a story, trying to evoke a response from the viewer.
Her work has been described as taught provoking, sometimes unconventional, but surely a conversation starter.
“Starting with a simple lump of clay, I can create a unique world from my imagination. “What’s more fun than that?”. Human and animal forms of all kinds get mixed together, usually incorporation found objects, giving them new life. My current passion is creating art dolls, mixing my love of textiles and clay. I appreciate things out of the ordinary, somber, weird, so ugly it’s cute. Come closer, and look through the small window to my soul.”
